Chair of the Disciplinary Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwasi Amoako-Attah has said that the recently-held super delegates conference was generally peaceful.
Despite the few infractions that characterized the polls, Mr Amoako-Attah said the exercise that took place last Saturday, August 26 was 99 percent peaceful.
“Generally, everything went well, we have heard of a few infractions here and here but the General Secretary has officially referred it to us, we are yet to meet and then do our own investigations and come out with a decision. I don’t want to comment on it now because we haven’t gone into it,” he said.
The Atiwa West Lawmaker added “The fact that we recorded one or two infractions doesn’t mean that we should throw our hands in desperation. Generally, it was peaceful, it was 99 percent peaceful even though we were all expecting a 100 percent peaceful situation.”
It is recalled that following an attack on one of his agents, Mr Alan Kyerematen who placed third in the delegate conference issued a warning to stakeholders that he would not tolerate attacks on his supporters in the future.
His agent, Ali Zakaria was hit in the eye and had to be taken to the Baptist Medical Center (BMC) for immediate treatment in an incident that has been described as exaggerated by the party’s regional branch.
Mr Kyerematen said the attack in the North East Region was “an act of total indiscipline”.
Visiting his agent at the Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, Mr Kyerematen, said the attack at the Nalerigu Senior High School constitutes a dent on the image of the NPP.
“We all joined the NPP because of our commitment to the values of our party but what is happening clearly shows that this is not what we bargained for,” he told journalists on Tuesday, August 29.
He warned that such behaviour would not be tolerated by him in the future.
“I am not going to tolerate this kind of behaviour. It doesn’t make sense and when we cannot conduct ourselves as a family trying to select a leader in a peaceful and organised manner, how do we intend to be able to do the same kind of process when we have 200,000 plus people gathered?” he wondered concerning the November 4 Presidential Primary for the five qualified aspirants.
He said he is disturbed by the incident.
“Frankly, I am very disturbed about what has happened. The party must not put a shine on what has happened.”
