The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama Constituency, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has responded to allegations made against him by New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
In his address to hundreds of supporters on Saturday, September 16 after his unity walk dubbed ‘Showdown Unity Walk’, Mr Agyapong took a swipe at the Bantama MP, albeit not mentioning his name, for canvassing for votes for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“Even though he did not explicitly mention my name (purposely), I’m currently the only minister of state from Bantama, so I reasonably assume he’s referring to me,” Mr Asenso-Boakye, who is also the Minister of Works and Housing, said in a statement on Sunday, September 17.
“This blatant lie is not only ludicrous, but also politically puerile,” he stressed.
He insisted that the NPP government is committed to working hard to better the living standards of Ghanaians and win their trust.
‘Extraordinary candidate’
For him, what the Assin Central lawmaker churned out was “a mischievous lie deliberately made with the sole intention to cause disaffection for me, sully my good standing within the Party and neutralize whatever leverage I have on the Delegates”.
He said his position on the NPP Presidential Primary is already known as he believes Vice President Bawumia is the “extraordinary” candidate that can help the party ‘break the eight’.
“I urge all to disregard it and focus instead on building unity that will serve as the bedrock for winning the 2024 election.”
