Ghana champions Medeama SC emerged winners in the first leg of their CAF Champions League tie against Guinean giants Horoya on Sunday.
At the Cape Coast Stadium the Yellow and Mauves with determination, produced an outstanding performance in front of home fans as they secured a 3-1 victory.
The visitors aimed to at least secure a point as they stood their ground to avoid conceding in the first half.
However, Medeama with a higher momentum returned from the break with sheer directness as Nana Kofi Babil broke the deadlock in the 48th minute.
Babil’s goal would follow an improved display from the Tarkwa-based side who through Nurudeen Abdulai, doubled their lead in the 65th minute by connecting a corner kick putting Horoya in a more difficult situation.
Kofi Asmah capped off the remarkable performance from Medeama with a well-taken strike to get the third goal further increasing his team’s hope of getting to the group stage.
Their Guinean giants finally pulled one back in the 89th minute securing a crucial away goal ahead of the second leg which comes off in two weeks.
Medeama will have to hold on to their advantage in the return fixture when they travel to Guinea to face the 2021/22 winners of the Guinée Championnat National.
