Attorney General Godfred Dame

Private legal practitioner Bobby Banson has admonished the Minister of Justice and Attorney General to be fair in addressing the public remarks by key personalities on the James Gyakye Quayson trial.

On Monday, July 3, Godfred Yeboah Dame said he has heard all the comments about the ongoing trial but will come out officially with a response soon though he hinted that the actions are “unhealthy” for the administration of law.

“I will come out with a proper statement on the matter and it will be in respect of all comments generally which have the tendency to subvert the administration of justice,” he told journalists in Accra.

“I think that it is very unhealthy for our democratic dispensation and we must not countenance same.”

This comes after the Dormaahene, Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, who is also a High Court judge, called for the discontinuation of the criminal case, urging the AG to file a nolle prosequi.

Speaking on the matter on TV3‘s News 360 on Monday, July 3, lawyer Banson disagreed with the call by the Dormaahene, insisting that the case must continue to it’s conclusion.

He said he holds that opinion based essentially on law.

Nonetheless, he called on the AG to come out quickly with the promised response and that must chart the path for the case, urging him not to be selective.

Mr Banson said the statement from the AG “should touch on what the president said” at Assin North on a campaign platform prior to the by-election. The lawyer deemed those comments prejudicial as well.

For him, the scale of justice must be balanced in order to satisfy all parties.
