I need a record label - Shatta Wale hails Nigeria's music industry
Shatta Wale

Controversial Dancehall Musician, Shatta Wale has boldly stated that no Ghanaian artiste is on the same level as Asaake, the Nigerian singer and entertainer who is signed to YBNL Nation.

His comments which were made during a Twitter Space on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, have sparked a flurry of discussions and debates within the industry and among fans.

“No Ghanaian artiste has even made it like Asaake. Don’t even bring up the Asaake point. Not even me [Shatta Wale], nobody, so don’t even bring that. Don’t bring the Asaake name,” he said

Asake, a rising star in the music realm, has managed to capture the attention and admiration of many with his unique sound and captivating performances.

His recent concert at the O2 Arena on Sunday, August 20, 2023, has been described as ‘historic’ by music pundits. This is also due to the rapid rise and impact of Asake’s music, which has resonated with a wide audience.

However, it’s not just Shatta Wale’s comparison of Asake’s stature that has stirred controversy.

The ‘Shatta Movement’ singer also addressed his own priorities and aspirations in the music industry.

He candidly questioned why he should risk his life to fill venues like the O2 Arena, referencing his previous struggles and personal goals.

According to the award-winning dancehall star, he is focused on financial growth, and accumulating substantial wealth rather than striving to fill arenas

“You people call me a drug addict, why should I risk my life to fill a place for Ghanaians or the music industry? I am okay, I wanted to buy house, lands and investments, I am okay, so filling the O2 is not my priority, my priority is to keep a billion dollars in my account , that is where I am at right now. Nobody should disturb me about filling the 02 or my music,” he opined.

He also asserted that he is content with his current accomplishments, including his performance at the Accra Sports Stadium because he did not get support from within the Ghanaian music industry to push his agenda.

“After I filled the Accra Sports stadium, Ghanaians should have given me a helping hand to fill the 02 because I am not from London to be able to fill up the 02,” he tendered.

He finally added, “Asake alone could not fill the 02, industry players contributed so if the Ghanaian industry is trying to burst someone who single-handedly filled the sports stadium without any promos, what more can I do.”
