The 2020 Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Agona West Constituency in the Central Region has been disqualified from next month’s primaries.

Paul Ofori-Amoah was disqualified by the Vetting Committee, chaired by National Organiser Joseph Yammin, after several petitions were brought against him.

Though it is unclear what the petitions are about, 3news.com can confirm that they have to do with an assassination plot against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, in the heat of the 2020 elections.

Though the matter has since been under investigations, documents from the armed men arrested from their hotel hideout proved to belong to Mr Ofori-Amoah.

The Agona West Constituency Communications Officer, Africa Zion, told journalists after the vetting on Wednesday, April 5 that Mr Ofori-Amoah, notwithstanding, has a window of opportunity to appeal the decision by the vetting committee if he so wishes.

However, he stated that the decision was has led to the national leadership already conducting vetting for the other aspirants in the constituency.

“It is an internal affair and as much as possible, we will want to keep everything inside,” the Constituency Communication Officer said.

Appeals from disqualified candidates in the fallout of the nationwide vetting are scheduled to be heard after Thursday, April 13.

So far, Weah Asomani Maxwell (WAM) and Ernestina Ofori have been cleared to contest the May 13 primaries in the Agona West Constituency.
