First New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency Christopher Addae has announced his intent to returning to Parliament, 3news.com has gathered.
In the 2004 parliamentary election, Christopher Addae snatched the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai seat, which had long been held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) since 1996.
Mr Addae overthrew Seidu Paakuna Adamu, who had occupied the seat for two consecutive terms (1996-2004).
His first attempt saw him securing 52% in the total votes share.
He maintained his momentum in nominal figures during the 2008 parliamentary election, retaining the seat for the NPP.
In 2012, former Western North Region Minister Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu took over the baton.
However, he lost it to the current MP, Alfred Obeng-Boateng, in the 2020 NPP parliamentary primaries.
Christopher Addae is considered as the Godfather of the NPP in the constituency.
His coming back poses a major threat to the camp of the current MP, who appears to have lost his base.
Currently, there is a division among the constituency executives, a typical case is a long standing litigation between the constituency chairman and the MP.
Christopher Addae hopes to capitalise on the current division and retain the seat for the ruling party in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai constituency.
