In a decisive move against youth unemployment, area businesses and Non-Governmental Organisations came together on September 9, 2023, for a remarkable initiative: a free hospitality training event aimed at empowering Accra’s young talent.
At the heart of this initiative was the African Community Development Hub (ABCD Hub). Their soft skills training, led by Nataki, revolved around the essential theme of open communication and integrity as foundation for harmonious working environments between staff and employers.
A real-time learning experience was possible thanks to Negolodge of Dansoman. They generously provided an active hospitality space for hands-on training.
Trainees acquired skills in meticulously cleaning various areas like kitchens, halls, and living rooms. Equally crucial, they learned about the appropriate use of disinfectants, disposal techniques, and specialized cleaning agents. Advanced machinery, such as floor buffers, also found its way into the training curriculum, ensuring a holistic learning experience.
BB Phlexi, a reputable residential and commercial cleaning company, not only sponsored this transformative event but took the further step of offering employment opportunities to select trainees. Their commitment emphasizes the genuine intent behind this initiative: creating real-world opportunities for youth.
Nataki from ABCD Hub commented, “This initiative is about more than just training. It’s about empowering our youth, giving them the tools and opportunities they need to shape their futures and the future of Accra.”
BB Phlexi’s CEO, Bernice Boakye Yiadom expressed, “At BB Phlexi, we believe in the potential of Accra’s youth. We’re proud to play our part in nurturing this potential, providing not just skills, but genuine career opportunities.”
Given the overwhelming success and support received during this event, a follow-up training session has already been announced. Eager participants and interested businesses should mark their calendars for October 28th, the date set for this year’s second and final hospitality training session.
With such collaborations, Accra’s youth are not just being trained; they’re being provided with tangible opportunities for growth and employment. It’s a model worth replicating and a beacon of hope in challenging times.
