The Shama District Security Council (DISEC), together with the Minerals Commission, has discovered quantities of Ammonium substances and some explosives in the trenches of the Anto Aboso quarry enclave.

Where the substances and explosives were discovered play host to about six quarry sites, bringing to question the safety of both workers and communities in the District.

According to the Minerals Commission, such harmful substances could only be kept by companies with permit.

The Assistant Manager at the Minerals Commission, Francis Annobil Jnr, said the substances could only be kept in a designated area called Magazine.

The Shama District Chief Executive, Ebenezer Dadzie, told journalists at the site that intelligence led to the discovery of the quantities which were covered in quarry dust in the said bush.

He said the safety of communities around and the constant expression of fear had become a matter of concern to the Assembly, thus the need for the exercise to rid the community of such substances to avert such human errors, leading to accidents and preventable deaths.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), in this regard, charged the communities to also play their civic role by reporting suspicious activities of operators in the area.
