Hearts of Oak assistant coach, David Ocloo, who has taken on the role of head coach in the continued absence of Slavko Matic, has identified the main issue hampering the club’s progress this season.

Despite being champions of the MTN FA Cup in the past two seasons, they have failed to reach the latter stages of the competition and have struggled to impress in the league. They have been inconsistent, leaving them in fourth position and three points adrift of the top spot.

As a result, the Serbian coach has been indefinitely suspended. The fans do not want him back, and the management are yet to decide on his future, leaving him out of the club. In the meantime, Ocloo has supervised the last five games, including the 1-0 win over fierce rivals Asante Kotoko, and Wednesday’s hard-fought win against surprise title contenders, Accra Lions in Accra.

Ocloo spoke to the media after the game at the Accra Sports Stadium and admitted that they have a problem with goalscoring. Among the current top six clubs, Hearts have scored the fewest goals, with their top scorer being defender Caleb Amankwah. Their attackers have not been up to the task, and Ocloo shares the fans’ concerns.

He said, “We create a lot of chances, but we don’t score. Apart from this match, we did not create many chances. We have been creating chances in our games.”

“Even in Anyinase, we created some decent chances, but we couldn’t score. Scoring has been a problem, and we are working assiduously on it.”

Hearts, the second most successful club in Ghana’s history, are seeking to win the league title again this season to taste continental action next term.
