AshantiGold coach Thomas Duah has expressed his frustration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and its handling of the match-fixing scandal involving his team and Inter Allies.

Following the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) decision to annul all sanctions imposed on Ashantigold by the GFA Disciplinary Committee, Duah has called for accountability and changes within the football organisation.

The match in question took place during the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season, where Ashantigold emerged victorious with a 7-0 win over Inter Allies at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium. The GFA expelled both teams from the league and demoted them to the Division Two League, while some players faced bans of varying lengths.

However, CAS overturned the bans on the players, leading to Duah’s criticism of the GFA’s handling of the case. He expressed his belief that those involved in the adjudication of the scandal should have resigned following CAS’s decision, citing his disappointment with the organization’s actions.

In particular, Duah highlighted the impact of the sanctions on players like Isaac Opoku Agyemang, whose potential move to Europe was hindered by the GFA’s verdict. The coach expressed empathy for the affected players and expressed frustration over the pain caused to his team.

“Those who sat on the case of the boys should have resigned by now after the CAS decision,” Duah told Akoma FM in Kumasi. “What the GFA and their Secretary have done to us is very painful. If I were Isaac Opoku Agyemang who was on the verge of moving to Europe prior to the verdict, I would have cursed the FA and the Secretary.”
