Liverpool legend John Barnes has urged Ajax star Mohammed Kudus not to rush a move away from the Dutch giants despite numerous interest from top European clubs.
The Black Stars midfielder has been in magnificent form scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists for club and country this season and has been on the wishlist of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool among others.
He also rejected a deal to extend his stay with Ajax according to his agent citing his willingness to leave for a new chapter.
However, John Barnes, a two-time League and FA Cup champion with Liverpool believes it is in Mohammed Kudus’ best interests to stay longer in order to be grounded in his skill set.
“I advice every player to learn their trade, to be disciplined and humble. To stay at their club for a long period of time – so they can do that [learn their trade],” but football is different now anyways, it has changed. And we see that all the time, where a footballer has one good season and is transferred,” Barnes said to Joy FM.
“I use myself as an example; when I played, you have to show a level of consistency over a period of time, before you were transferred. Because of course when you are transferred, there’s going to be a lot of pressure on you, so unless you are able to show you can handle the pressure or do this [perform at a top level] over a period of time, and not five or six matches, I advice every player to learn their trade.”
Kudus’ future may strongly be dependent on Ajax since the 22-year-old still has two years left on his contract.
