The Chiefs and People Axim Traditional Council in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western have launched their 2018 annual edition of the Kundum festival with the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo honouring as the special guest of honour for the celebration.
The Municipal Chief Executive Officer Mr Frank Okpenyen disclosed this during a mini durbar held in Axim last Sunday to launch the Axim Kundum celebration, adding that Shatta Wale, Kofi Kinaata and others will honour the festival to entertain visitors.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Promoting Peace and Security in our communities, the role of Traditional Authorities’ which will be use to raise funds to rehabilitate the abandoned police bungalow which has been left for the past four decades in Axim.
According to him, the President is pleased to join the Chiefs and people of Axim to climax their annual festival aimed at interacting and use the occasion to cut sod for the Axim see defence wall and town roads.
He assured that the Member of Parliament for Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Constituency Madam Cathrine Ablema Afeku who doubles as the Tourism and Creative Arts Minister would continue to support and champion the developmental needs of the people.
On his part, the Acting President of Upper Axim Traditional Area, Nana Kwaw Tendenle III called on all natives of Axim to support the traditional authority mark a successful celebration devoid of violence since the security agencies will deal with anyone found culpable.
He urged all to uphold and respect the traditional values of the traditional council by observing the laid down rules during the one-month ban on noise making.
The Chairman of the Axim Kundum Planning CommitteeNana Osei Nkwantabisa before launching the celebration lauded Vodafone Ghana and other donors such as Lou Moon Beach Resort, Ankobra Beach Hotel and Axim Beach Hotel for supporting both 2017 and 2018 Kundum celebrations.
He urged corporate agencies who want to do business during the celebration to follow the appropriate quarters to avoid any embarrassment.
Nana Nkwantabisa who doubles as the Nkosuohene (Development Chief) for Lower Axim Traditional Area commended the Member of Parliament for the Area Madam Afeku for her commitment and support by facilitating the invitation of the President as well as collaborating the Tourism Ministry towards a successful celebration.

The 2018 Kundum will witness major activities from Monday 3 September to Sunday 9 September with activities such as clean up exercise, regatta race, marathon, Miss Kundum pageant, cooking competition, street carnival jam, grand durbar and thanksgiving service respectively. He added.
