Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, has confidently stated that he is not afraid to be prosecuted following the investigation conducted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

The Heart Surgeon said he sees no reason for prosecution and strongly believes that he has done nothing wrong by publishing the report on illegal mining.

About a month ago, Professor Frimpong-Boateng received an invitation from the Office of the Special Prosecutor, but issues regarding his appearance at the OSP gained prominence on June 7.

During an interview with Joy News, the former Chairman of the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining remarked, “If bad people want to kill you, they know what to do to kill you. If people who have the power to do things want to ditch you, they will know how to do it because it happens. So whatever you are doing, we should be clever that you are doing everything in the interest of Ghana”.

He dismissed claims that his actions were driven by a desire for retaliation against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for not being re-appointed.

“I’m not bitter, I don’t need to be a minister to survive, there are people who need that, to try to survive and do many things. I didn’t have to be a minister to build a house, or do any of these things. My children are all old. I don’t need a government position to live in this country,” he clarified.

In a 37-page document, Professor Frimpong Boateng accused government officials of involvement in illegal mining (galamsey) or interfering with his work.
