Accra, April 23, GNA – President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, on Sunday, April 23, paid a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Usman Nuhu Sharabutu, to wish him well on his 104th birthday.

“We thank God for his life. He has been a blessing to our nation,” the President said.

He lauded Sheikh Dr. Nuhu Sharabutu for his exemplary leadership and commitment to the cause of humanity, saying the Government and people of Ghana appreciated his contribution to the peace and stability of the nation.

“We wish you good health and blessings,” President Nana Akufo-Addo said.

He said the celebration of the National Chief Imam’s birthday was symbolic, particularly coming in the wake of the Eid-ul-Fitr, which marked the end of the Ramadan (30 days fasting period).

The President, on behalf of the Ghanaian people, thanked him for his unflinching support for national development issues.

Sheikh Dr. Nuhu Sharabutu, in a solemn prayer session, held at his Fadama residence, in Accra, prayed for the President and First Lady, calling for Allah’s (God) continuous blessings, and for peace and unity to always prevail among the people.

At 104, the National Chief Imam is one of the oldest-surviving Islamic Scholars in Africa, and over the years, has worked tirelessly on religious, social and educational issues, helping to promote disadvantaged and vulnerable communities in Ghana.

This has enabled him to transcend religious boundaries, earning the respect of all Ghanaians.
