Veteran highlife musician, Kwadwo Akwaboah Senior has revealed how he became blind after he travelled to Amsterdam to procure some musical equipment.
The “Awerekyekyere” hitmaker, speaking in an interview with Ohemaa Woyeje on Adom FM’s “Work and Happiness” on Wednesday, said he decided to travel to Holland to buy instruments to set up a studio in Ghana but after he made the purchase, he lost his vision.
“After securing all the equipment, I realized I couldn’t see in my right eye. When I visited the doctor, he gave me some medicines including an eye drop but they never worked. I lost my right vision and gradually when I returned to Ghana, I lost my vision completely. I was told it is Glaucoma…” he said.
This notwithstanding, Akwaboah, who has been blind for 12 years, said he has not allow it to affect his career.
In his view, those who wallow in pain due to sickness die early hence he will never stop searching for a cure to regain his sight.
“They said it’s glaucoma but I don’t accept it. I want herbal medicine to cure it. In Ghana, when you are sick, the record labels think that is the end of your life. They don’t allow you. If my eyes don’t function it doesn’t mean my mind is dead. I play shows. I play keyboards too. If you give yourself the chance, sickness can kill you…” he told Ohemaa Woyeje.
