A Parliamentary Candidate hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Abuakwa North Constituency, Palgrave Frimpong Boakye-Danquah, is convinced the party is ready to ‘break the 8’ following results of the weekend’s super delegates conference.

He says the overwhelming victory of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the percentage of that win thereof is an indication that the ruling party will indeed ‘break the 8’.

The Vice President on Saturday, August 26 polled 629 out of 923 valid votes cast to emerge Number 1 in the National Congress of Special Electoral College of the NPP.

Second-placed Kennedy Ohene Agyapong could only poll 132 votes with the rest including favourite Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen getting less than 100 votes. One, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, did not get a single vote.

Reacting to the results, Mr Boakye-Danquah stated: “The overwhelming victory and leading % of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the super delegates conference is an indication that the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) is truly ready to break the 8.

“We are breaking the 8-year cycle of political tradition in Ghana as we are breaking the cycle and truly involving the Dombo tradition.”

The Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security added: “We are setting the records that the grassroots reward hardwork, sacrifice, dedication and commitment. It’s not money or age… it’s the FUTURE and my personal thanks to delegates for choosing the FUTURE.”

He congratulated all the delegates for choosing Dr Bawumia among the Top 5, which could leave either Francis Addai-Nimoh or Boakye Agyarko out.

A National Congress is scheduled to be held on Saturday, November 4 to elect the 2024 flagbearer of the party.
