The Data Protection Commission (DPC) will continue its enforcement exercise this week to ensure that data collectors regularize their processes.

The DPC began its enforcement exercise last week, which resulted in 25 entities being cited for various data breaches.

Some companies had their employees picked up for questioning by the Police CID for violations committed.

Speaking to Citi News, Quintin Akrobeto, the DPC’s Director of Regulatory and Compliance, said that over 100 institutions are on the DPC’s radar for this week’s enforcement exercise.

“We will continue to visit data controllers,” Akrobeto said. “On Monday, we will be visiting some areas. Obviously, the numbers we are looking at are huge. We cannot go after every institution in a day, so we will make sure that we tackle sector after sector.”

“We will be targeting educational institutions, the media, religious bodies, and any other institution or sector of the economy that is not complying with the Data Protection Act. We will visit them and ensure that they comply with the Act.”
