The Minority leadership

The Minority in Parliament and the Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service will face off in court today over an interim injunction on the planned protest against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his two deputies.

The Command secured the injunction on Wednesday, August 30 after disagreements over the routes for the demonstration.

The Minority on Thursday, August 31 also filed an affidavit in opposition to the application, which was scheduled to be heard on Monday, September 4.

Even before the case is heard, the Minority has resolved to embark on the protest without recourse to the police.

“The Minority in collaboration with Arise Ghana, other Civil Society Organisations and well-meaning Ghanaians are resolved to embark on this historic protest march to demand the immediate resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his two Deputies, for superintending a colossal loss of GH¢60.8 billion in 2022 alone, which has occasioned a Negative Equity of GH¢55.1 billion, as well as other acts of financial malfeasance that have completely destroyed the Central Bank,” the Minority said in its affidavit to the registry of the High Court.

“The Minority group and other progressive forces said they remain focused and will not relent until Misgovernor Addison, his complicit Deputies and pliant Board of Directors resign.”

The demonstration is planned for Tuesday, September 5.
